Review of Dead Future #1
Posted by Martin Brandt II in Uncategorized on September 25th, 2009
So you may know that I wrote a couple stories for this series called “Grim Crew Presents: Dead Future”.
Well the first two issues have been sent out for review, of which I wrote two of the stories in issue #1. The first review is in and it doesn’t look too bad. I am very proud of the work I did on the first story in this book, “Real Monsters”. I am even prouder of the work Paul Petyo put into. The man’s eye for creating visually compelling work is astounding.
“Real Monsters is a chilling tale by Martin Brandt II illustrated with Paul Petyo’s breathtaking photo-manipulation. I had the chance to see some of Petyo’s work before, and I am quickly becoming a big fan. He brings a ton of textures to his art, and it is easy for readers to immerse themselves in this decaying world.” – Micheal Roberts Project Fanboy
It looks as though Micheal agrees with me on Paul’s work. Go take a look at the review: Dead Future #1
I will be at Baltimore Comic Con with Paul October 10th and 11th. Paul will not be there till later in the day on the 10th due to some prior commitments. Stop by and say hi, check out the book. Hell, buy a copy. We will also have limited amounts of advanced copies of issue #2 there as well for purchase. Which just so happen got a great review as well: Dead Future #2
Hope to see you there!
UPDATES!

Just got word not long ago from Martinho Abreu, a man I call “The Machine”. He is currently drawing Josh Gorfain’s short story, “A Sort of Homecoming” for Dead Future. Also he is redrawing our original “Son of the Raven” pages. He feels his art has taken a significant change for the better and wants the pages to show him at the top of his game.

We (Martinho and I) tried to take a shot at doing some GFT (Grim Furry Tales) pages but felt it was best to find another artist here. His strength is in comic sequential, trying to get him down to simple cartoon work and staying there was not exactly working out. It was fun to give it a shot though. So I am in the market for another artist to help bring the beginning of GFT to life; got any leads?
Going back to Dead Future, we had come to a cross road that forced us to make a choice. Either release a half finished graphic novel or put it out as a limited series. With two issues already set, it looks like we made the right choice. Issue 3 and 4 are almost complete and covers should be on the way soon for those. These will be released on a monthly basis for a limited run eventually culminating into a compilation of all issue and some extra goodies. I’m excited for the possibilities here and it really helps to get work of good people out there for others to see.
